Straight-Edge wroteAtH1337 wrote You know what? I really think that legalizing them would do more harm than good because if people from the Ghetto can just go out and buy a gun like that then crime rates will definitely increase. Legalizing them would not only increase crime rates, but it would put the police at a disadvantage when in a combat situation.
There are some positives, like it may become a whole new business and may help citizens defend themselves, but honestly I think it would probably do more damage in the long run and would INCREASE the amount of murders that happen in the U.S.
So, no, I don't want firearms to be legalized. I think people should have to have extensive training and no criminal record to even fathom owning a gun.
They are already legalized. What is illegal right now are military grade and automatic weapons. This discusssion is about them illegalizing single shot and semi-auto rifles and pistols. The type of guns usually shown in the Ghetto, like the Uzi, are illegal which in itself proves the point that if they want guns, they will get them. I doubt they are as easy to obtain as seen on TV but people can still obtain them.
Everything you just said is not true. Fully automatic weapons are legal as long as the one's you own were manufactured before 1986. But they cost anywhere from $10,000 up. And you have to through a lot paper work.

XEK wrote When this thing happened the first thing politicians did was hop onto it and blame gun-laws etc., when the the bottom link is, is that a crazy man purchased a bunch of guns, and shot people.
Guns laws should stay as they are, make monthly tests where they check if you're mentally insane is what they should do...
I actually kinda agree about them checking up on mental states. It does seem a bit unfair that politicians immediately jumped to "guns are evil" where as most of the population properly uses them. Even if they completely ban guns, there will still be shootings. It's like with drugs. They're illegal, but people acquire them anyways. Mental checks would possibly keep guns out of most psychopath's hands.

Yes there is. People used to work hard for the things they owned unlike now. Back in the 1700s people used guns for hunting to feed their families. People still do use guns for hunting as well as self defense and recreation, you are an idiot.

If you compare the two countries by intentional homicide rate, you will find out that Canada has a much lower percentage.
Canada: 1.7/100,000
U.S.: 4.7/100,000
(2010)
Canada also has a lesser population. And people in America use guns for hunting, and recreation, as well as self defense. Canada still does have gun crimes, and guns. Making guns illegal doesn't make them disappear.
It's a crime rate, and refers to the RATE of intentional homicide per 100,000 people. Again, this refers to the rate of intentional homicide per 100,000 people, not recreation and hunting. BTW, hunting is allowed here with a licence. Of course we still have gun crime, every country has gun crime. Making guns illegal doesn't make gun crime disappear, but it makes crime go significantly down.

This doen
Nt effect me, i am a trained killer by working with the military as a sharp shooter. And sharp shooter trainer.
But they do have a right to take all guns away. Even after the bear arms all weapons should be for military only.(cops, army, navy, etc)

The word crime refers to criminals. Not law abiding citizens. Which means that making guns illegal will only take them away from the law abiding citizens. Not the criminals that find other illegal ways to get them which would leave law abiding citizens vulnerable to criminals.....
