Actually yes i had bought BF3 for my old PC and it was not going to well and i had to toss some cash for a laptop, and i was surprised it did run smooth, but when you have more than 3 programs the FPS tends to decrease every 5 or 4 seconds. But maybe thats just me i have WinRar and horizon,modio,USBXTAF, and alot of other mods i transferred from my old pc

If you want to play games, then you need a good video driver, and a good amount of RAM. So 8GB of RAM will run almost any game on best quality. I have a 27in Mac with 8GB of RAM and can play BF3 on best settings while running 5 other programs. It also depends on your video card. If you have a old one, than some games want even let you play them. I'm pretty sure that there is a website that you can test your driver for BF3 or any other game before you buy/download it.

Also, I'm not too familiar with Alien Ware, but that looks like a pretty good deal. I would get it, if it best suits your needs. (;
