I have my laptop connected to a hdtv via hdmi. but I want the audio to come out my external computer speakers.(which I plug in the headphone jack) When I plug the speakers into the headphone jack they don't pick up anything?

I think you have to go to your computer settings and change the audio output to headphone jack
