Do you need to flash it?

It depends what drive you have and whats wrong with it??

Usually you can unsolder the wires and replace the chip if you know what goes where.

If you get an identical drive to the one you have and providing it isn't the pcb that is faulty then you can just swap the pcbs.

If you don't get an identical drive you will have to dump the key from your old drive and spoof and flash it.

If you just replace the drive without doing any of the above you will only be able to watch dvd films and listen to music cds.
