Now look, I don't like Lil Wayne, drake, etc's music...at all. IMO, its not even rap, real mainstream rap died after 2004-ish. The good stuff is underground now.
BUT the reason these people are so popular is because of the fans. What sells is what will be mainstream, and since this Pop Rap stuff is what sells, that is what is mainstream. If gangsta rap was still what was liked by the majority, then I bet you 100%, that would have been mainstream right now.
Just sayin.

If haven't studied your history music changes over time and different genres become more popular and others become less popular.

After not really being active, my posting skills have gone down a bit. But the point was that lil wayne is famous because his style of music is whats selling right now.

to be honest if rap was like the way it was back when Biggie and Tupac i think alot of rappers would be in jail right now. For example, Lil Wayne almost got arrested because of his Music Video My Homies Still, Police thought he had something to do with the Batman Movie Theather Shooting because he had skeletons in a movie theather during his video
