LooseDiamond wrote Im going to be upgrading from a AMD A6 3670k,

I dont know if i should be going with another AMD, the FX 8350 or switch to Intel i5 3570k, This will be mainly for gaming and minor video editing and Photoshop.

I have budget of 400GBP for a CPU and motherboard.

I already have:

ASUS HD 7970 Direct CU2
1TB WD Caviar Black
128GB Crucial M4
Antec VP 550w
Zalman Z9-U3
Corsair H70 w/2x Corsair SP 120mm Quiet Fans

This is just a question, i wont be going with this, will the PSU listed above have enough power for a i7 3770k and a HD 7970, both overclocked?

Any help will be appreciated.

These two. But don't overclock the 7970 using that power supply. Power consumption skyrockets when that card is overclocked and it would draw more than 550w.

At stock clocks it's fine and you can OC the CPU no problem.

What will happen if i use more that 550w?

Possibly nothing since units like yours are known to function beyond their specifications, but it could simply shut off under load. Nothing to be afraid of. You might want to pick up something like a Kill-A-Watt to see how much your system is actually drawing from the socket at any given time.

Ah ok that will explain the buzzing from my PSU when i run Firmark after overclocking to 1105/5920 @ 1182mV, Thanks for the help

Aha... Yeah, don't do that. Just because you can push the unit further than its specs doesn't mean it can't do it harm. Good thing Antec sells such quality units.

I'm going to be building a PC in the following months mainly for gaming.
My budget is about 450.
It's going to have and Sapphire Radeon 7770 and all that other stuff. But to keep in my budget i'm going to buy an AMD processor.
What i really want to know is, should I wait until I can afford something better like an i5 3000 series, or is an AMD processor good enough for what i'm going to be doing? Any advice is welcome
