Let's get together and post how our favorite team is stacking up against the rest of the crowd by sharing our detailed thoughts of what our team is doing to better prepare themselves for the post-season, and the point-blank statistics that back up our response.
1. Post your favorite teams division
2. Where your team stands in the division as of now
3. What your team has done to improve to make it into the playoffs
4. Your teams chances (Your perspective) of making the playoffs
5. How far your team will probably make it in the playoffs
I'll Start:
2nd in NL Central - St.Louis Cardinals
We came off the WS win to enter the year with a shadow reminder of a player we all know as, "The Machine." We started off the season on the right foot in the first 30-40 games with a record of something along the lines of 29-8 with all of our players in overall good health. Everything looked good until 2-3 weeks before all-star break, and then 2-3 weeks after all-star break before we started hitting a nice streak here and there, getting us to the position we are in as of now with the top Wild-Card spot. Our pitching has been in my mind, phenomenal, besides a few games where we just couldn't get the ball to stay in catching distance. It's too early for me to say whether Wainwright(13-11) is going to become as dominant as he has been before the TJ surgery, but he has been doing his part, fanning 14 in a game not to long ago. To my surprise, Kyle Lohse(14-2) has stepped up big time, giving us heavy wins over dominant teams to prevent several "Could have been" sweeps. On the topic of hitting, we have been doing outstanding since the all-star break bringing in .300+ averages from Yadi,Jay,Craig,Holliday,Freese, and M.Carpenter along with all of them making an above average OBP of (.340+). One man has surprised me even more for the worse, though, HR hitter Beltran(.268), who has made some crucial singles as of lately but has been in a batting slump for atleast 2 weeks now. Our offense has been ranked top 3 in all categories all year in the NL ranking, 3rd in runs, 2nd in batting avg., and 2nd in OBP. On another positive note, we are getting back PUMA (Lance Berkman) who has finally recovered from his right knee injury, who I hope will bring back the willpower and positive energy we need to make this playoff run for #12in2012!
Bottom Line: If we continue to build on our hitting as we have after the all-star break, we will continue to dominate the overscore with triple digits as we have all year, and If the other half of our pitching comes to coherts and bring their A-game, there is no reason in the world we should not atleast clinch a Wild-Card spot.
Prediction: Cincinnati wins NL Central / St.Louis wins #1 WC spot
Post-Season Prediction: St.Louis will make it past the first wave, but unless they prove as stated before, they will not go any further.
