Nope. Bad as a laptop and bad a gaming machine.

Yes, I am. I can't speak for other people, but I've laid out my reasoning dozens of times.

that doesn't mean it's not a good machine. The specs are great.

It's too heavy to be used like a normal laptop, the power adapter is huge, it's huge, the screen is awful, batterly life sucks, and it's heavy. Good performance for a laptop maybe, but it comes at too high a cost. It's not a laptop anymore, it's completely ridiculous. Split the price in half, but a T430 and build a PC.

we're awaiting on weight and battery life. not all laptops are like that lol. You can get a better battery. Stock batteries suck. And 12 lbs not much.

12 lbs is MUCH more than a PORTABLE machine should weigh...You're buying a gaming laptop for all the wrong reasons.

What Burrow (and just about anyone who supports gaming laptops) doesn't get is that laptops were invented to be portable and lightweight machines. We all know gaming laptops are very heavy and are completely impractical. You'll be lucky to get a 2hr battery life. Also the graphics on a gaming laptop can't compare to a desktop card. Really, they are the retarded cousins of real laptops (Thinkpads etc). They're also overpriced, a $1200 Asus G-series gaming laptop or an awesome $1200 Thinkpad, your pick.
r00t, You should (or whoever) put your reasoning against gaming laptops in the info sect of the Custom PC Topic. At least I think it would be a good idea.

My friend has the previous-gen model of this system and it's everything I'm saying it is. 12 pounds is too much. My Thinkpad T500 is 8 pounds and too unwieldly for how I use it. My friend's G74 just holds him back. He plays games on it, but it's not worth it and he's frustrated by it. It's simply not portable. He has to carry a huge backpack to accomodate it and he rarely wants to bother getting it out.

I could see it being used for LANs if you actually frequented them, but that's a VERY niche market you're talking about. If that's you, though, it's a valid option. Even then I would build an ITX rig.
