[b]im trying to link a castle to another castle that im building in my map useing something like a signal fire but ive got no idea how to do it cause when i light the wood two blocks burn then it goes out


Also if any one wants to help build second castle add me

So why don't you go to the nether and use netherack that doesn't burn out.

i dont want it to be lit all of the time i mostly just want it for show but i would still like it to be functional

So just make a restone contraption where u can hide glowstone and then press a lever and it shows the glowstone.
Keep playing about with t and you will get the look you want eventually.

another problem i havent really done much with redstone at all so got no idea how that stuff works

Well in that case youtube is your best friend :p There will be loads of tutorials on there to follow.
