When you at the main menu press Y, select your character and choose the play through

I know but when I'm on normal mode am I playing on the 1st or 2nd playthrough ?

Gotta finish the game, then in the main menu, press Y and select your character, then it will say either "Normal Mode" or "True Vault Hunter mode"

You didnt read what i said correctly did you.. go into the MAIN MENU, then push Y to select your character, then pick your original character then it gives you the options.

You completed 'Normal Mode' and you wanna play 'True Vault Hunter Mode' right?

At the Main Menu, Press Y (Character Select), Choose the character that you completed Playthrough 1 with, then press 'True Vault Hunter Mode.' Simple as that.
