Ok, So I have a PC and a laptop, my wife has a laptop and I'm running both PS3 and XBOX live, when I am on my laptop and my wife is on hers I can't do anything on mine for some reason. I have 30mbps internet, and the router is a cheap Netgear G router. What is the perfect router for me?For a decent price also. 3 computers, and 2 consoles, lots of streaming from at least 2 computers. Thanks ahead of time!

That router should work fine but you should buy a router with dual connections so you and your wife can be on different connections

You can get a new router, but that won't solve all your problems.

If you have cable internet then you are sharing your bandwidth with all your neighbors if they have the same cable internet provider as you.

This can suck because it will be unbearable to play online during peak hours because you will be lagging so much. Plus just to add-on to the pain, your neighbors are using the bandwidth as well as your wife on the computer which doesn't help the matter.

I have DSL Internet so I don't have to worry about all that, but they are probably doing away with DSL really soon.

Can you post a Speedtest rating? It's rarely the router at fault. Make sure nothing is taxing the connection when you do the test so the numbers are accurate.

Could you also find out what internet subscription you are paying for from your ISP? For example, mine is 10 megabits per second (mbps) down and 1 megabit per second up.

Trust me DSL is good

But it is running on "old" technology.

DSL runs through copper wiring as cable runs through fiber optics.

You get faster speeds with cable, but you get a stable, consistent speed with DSL.

I will miss DSL when it goes.

But hopefully they won't be cutting DSL off til another year or two atleast.

Also it was an article I read that AT&T and Verizon is doing away with DSL, you will probably still have your local DSL companies, but not many.

I have had AT&T DSL High Speed Internet for 5 years now. So far so good.

One more thing to add.

I think the maximum download speed you can get with DSL is 24 Mbps with an ADSL2+ Modem/Router/Gateway.

I do not know upload speed.

But with AT&T in my area I think the maximum is 8 Mbps Download and 512 Kbps Upload.

That is what I am suppose to get, but I'm getting some-what near that: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

When I had Xbox Live it was perfect online gaming for me. I could connect to anyone on Call of Duty and get "4 Bars" (4 Bars= Great).

But when it came to hosting if the lobby would be full the connection would lag a little every now and then.

I could also host modded lobbies with little-to-no lag as well.

But upload speed only has an impact if you are the host of a game.

We do not even know yet if the OP's router is the problem yet.

I doubt he wants to blow unnecessary money on a router if it isn't even the problem.

He saw your post the time, no need to repost telling him to look at it.
