SO, Minecraft Xbox Edition released in May.
First major update, 1.7.3, somewhere in July.
Next major update (titled 'The Most Difficult Update Yet'), 1.8.2, Mid October
It took 4J around 3 months to recreate 1.8.2 for Xbox after 1.7.3
Taking into consideration the amount of new stuff added and them saying 'the most difficult update yet', and also creating Creative Mode from scratch. They also mentioned that they have already begun work on the next update, which we'd be expecting:
Enchanting
Villagers (Possibly)
Nether Fortresses / Stairs / New Nether Structures
Animal Breeding (Confirmed for 1.9/1.0 either way)
Potions
Other New Features
My theory would be that the next major update, 1.9/1.0, will be releasing in:
Mid December - Mid January

the only reason this took so long is because they added ALOT of stuff like creative added about 15 new items this wouldnt really take as long as the last update

That is why I suggested the next major update would only roughly take 2 months.
