Alexandrea: Thanks for bearing with me Brandon, I am very sorry to inform your Friend this Error Code means it needs a Repair, or has been Tampered with, in which if it is sent in for Repair and found to have been Tampered or Repaired previously by a 3rd Party it will be sent back un-serviced. If you like Brandon, I can get you to our Hardware Department who Files Repairs so they can give you more information on this. But sadly the LIVE Department cannot do anything more for this Console, as this is why it's rejecting the Update after being scanned. brandon: I see the issue, Basically his xbox stopped reading discs and the fix from microsoft was $100+ and I've been working with xbox's for a while and do my own repairs as the xbox only needed a dvd drive laser replacement. The console was out of warranty. Isn't it wrongfully being denied with that error if someone is unable to pay for the repair and or has the knowledge to repair it themselves as they have bought the xbox console and is their property?
Alexandrea: Again Brandon, Hardware would be able to answer these questions better as I do not Deal with the Repairs, only Connectivity. But I understand completely what you mean, sadly though it refers to the Code of Warranty for the Console if you get it Repaired by a 3rd Party it is considered Tampering, it could just actually be Hardware Repair Issue though Brandon, so if he sends it in, they may not find anything in there to suggest Tampering. brandon: I have been working with computers and xbox's for over 8 years. I've fixed over 200 Xbox's with my service and most people come to me because they no longer have warranty. I just find it outrageous that xbox live is stopping someone from going online just over a harmless repair. The technician is me. I recently quit my job as a technician for Gamestop.
Maria: Oh, I apologize for this Brandon, I wish I can do something about this.
Maria: However, it's been the process and policy and I believe, you have known about it.
brandon: Yes I know. At gamestop with each xbox we receive to re-sell, We give out our own console ID's and warranty. I just don't understand why a loyal and paying xbox live subscriber is being punished for something harmless and does not alter and in or out game, Service and or exploit anything.
Maria: The repair package will cover shipping, parts, repair fee, labor, 1 month live card and 3 months warranty. Will also cover a replacement console if the console is irreparable at no additional cost.
Maria: That is why we will not recommend Xbox users to send the console for repair aside from our Service Center, Brandon.

brandon: Your service center charges over $100 to replace a laser for a dvd drive. Most dvd drives that xbox's are manufactured with only cost around $30-$60.
Maria: As what was mentioned earlier, Brandon, the repair package will also cover not only the repair, but also the shipping and handling, parts and for possible console replacement.
