I want to stay connected to xbox live but also join my other xbox threw system link...

For what game exactly?
on MW3 you wont need to connect via system link can just play as a guest in splitscreen
If you mean jtag, make sure its got the newest title update (TU7)
but both consoles will need the same title update to connect to each other
