Plug your iDevice into your laptop/computer, open up iTunes, navigate to your device, and finally click update.

hey, go to this website [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and after you pick your iphone you can just download the ipsw for your iphone (its already 5.1.1) just pick what kind of iphone you have. AFTER that downloads extract it to you desktop and then plug in your iDevice to your computer open itunes and when your iphone pops up hold "shift" then click "restore" while holding shift on your keyboard and select the ipsw from your desktop and it will start to restore. for the jailbreak download here is what you will need. one simple program call redsn0w, [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and do this after your update. then click on extras-->Select ipsw and select the ipsw that you download before and then click the jailbreak tab, and after that it will tell you how to do the rest. i hope this has helped you
