So I'm really wanting to get into game development. What language should I learn? I'm wanting to build a game small but I still want to do it. I've heard python is good for gaming but I have also heard C++. Just wondering what language you guys recommend so I can take at class on it thanks
PS: please no hate, I know it's not just an overnight thing to build a game.

IT'S a bad thing to go into strait away , I would take it slow , the first thing I did was to creating a mod for unreal/halflife/doomm.
Or change the script pass for the game, just play around with the code. Because its better going to school to learn if you have an know how on how it works.

Im sure you know this but im going to say it again, dont go for game developing of the bat as you will fail. I started out jumping into it and i didn't understand anything, things i made were basic as i was following people tutorials and not my own knowledge.
If you starting out try programming in Visual Basic then carry it over to Java, you need to understand the basics before you move into anything.
Also i use Java to do game developing as i like it better, you can use C++ and that language is more preferred in the gaming world but i dont pick it up to fast.
Make some small application then follow what you want to do i recommend.
(Also heard that Python isnt very good but i could be wrong as i dont know.)

I suggest Python, but that's personal prefs you don't have to listen to that. I find Python (along with MUCH more people) easier, and I'm not just saying that but at the same time it can't handle big games like lets say Arma II but you could make a basic game with it (still 3d if you want) and C++ is complicated but MUCH more powerful and MUCH faster than Python, hope this helped PIECE!

I would say learn the basics first try out creating something simple just to see how the syntax works and than jump in to C#. Learning programming inside an educational environment will never teach what you want or in some cases what you need to know.

I suggest learning with Visual Basic, then move on to java, you need to know the basics of programming so start basic (hence the name Visual Basic)

C++ and C# are what games are developed in... i know this because i personally interviewed a developer from redstorm entertainment who made ghost recon future soldier and is now working on Patriot
