I don't know. I always play custom game and it always counts

Playing on 'Solo Play' counts towards the 1 leaderboards, if you hadn't noticed.. go to leaderboards, go to Green Run, then you have 4 categories, 1, 2, 3, and 4. This indicates the amount of players you have played with, you can work out the rest for yourself.

* Custom Games on your own however does not count for leaderboards!

He's talking about like rounds. Custom Games rounds don't count but everything else does.
