If this is all you are doing, in all honesty, you really only need RAM and a processor that are half decent. You dont really need a good graphics card, but it wouldnt hurt.

Look for these specs, around here will suffice:
500gb HDD
6GB RAM
Quad-core Processor

You can easily find that for around or even under 600

A decent laptop for under $3000? DECENT? Damn. With that money you could get a top of the range laptop like a Razer Blade or something.

Not sure, The Razer Blade is a really good laptop, i'm sure there is laptops with similar specs, but the Razer Blade is one of the best laptops you're gonna find, if not THE best, and it's the best looking laptop i have ever seen.

Retina Macbook Pro. Anything else is not worth considering. Seriously, this or nothing.

- High resolution IPS panel.
- The best touchpad on a notebook. Period.
- Pre installed high capacity SSD.
- Great battery life.
- No bloat ware.
- Apple customer support.
- i7 with hyper-threading to take full advantage of editing and rendering suites.

The Razer Blade is crap and horrible value.

Why do you hate Macbooks? Being a fanboy of 'X' company and hating 'Y' company for no reason is simply silly if they have a better alternative.

There is nothing else that matches the specifications of an rMBP, especially some cheesy branded ricer gaming laptop that is grossly overpriced.

You could look at Thinkpads but they are not going to have ANY of the features besides maybe battery life of an rMBP.

They're bulky, heavy, plastic, sandpaper touchpad, low resolution panels when compared to an rMBP, 9 cell battery sticks out, they do have bloatware, and they don't come pre installed with SSD's unless you want to get charged way too much.

Also, do you NEED a laptop? I mean, for around $1,500 you can get a very high powerful 3770k + SSD custom computer + a Chromebook so you're going to have the performance and upgrade-ability of a tower and the portability of a laptop. It's just a suggestion and can save you a large sum of money.
