On a different Apple device, (iPod Touch, iPad, or iPhone) download the free app by Apple named 'Find my iPhone'. You type in your Apple ID and Password, and it displays a map of where the iPhone is, and you can manually erase all data, lock it, send a message to it, or whatever.
It sends an e-mail saying the 'distress' signal has dispatched.
It really helped me when I lost my iPod Touch, and if it's like a City away or something, send the message to it saying you know where it is and you've called authorities.
Should help.
Good luck:)

Use your Phone Bill, if there is any contracts called using your phone. Call those numbers and ask around. That's what my mum did for my sisters phone.
