So I just installed my vertex 4 SSD and my computer doesn't recognize that it's there. When I go into BIOS in the boot menu it shows that the ocz vertex is there but I'm just wondering that it doesn't show up as a storage option in "my computer".

It needs to be formatted properly to be recognized by Windows, but you really should be booting from it if you're not using it as a cache drive with Intel SRT. Use this guide to properly set up Windows with an SSD.

If you want to get the most out of the drive, yes. Ideally you would start from scratch and install all of your applications to it as well as they also benefit from the faster speeds. You will still be able to access all of your data on the mechanical hard drive without making any changes. That's exactly what I did, I had an installation of Windows on my 1TB drive and later added an SSD. I can still access all the files and my other installation is still intact and bootable.

Right so in BIOS I should choose the main bootup as my SSD. I have 1TB of storage and got the 128gb SSD recently and just installed it today. Like really I just don't even know where to begin. That link you sent me seemed like a bunch of gibberish.

After you install Windows to it, yes. You'll have to boot to a Windows disk or flash drive first to install it. The guide is pretty straightforward once you actually look into it, just scroll down to the second post in the thread and follow along. Here's the updated one for Windows 8.

So I figured it out but when I tried to download windows 8 to the SSD it didn't work. It went through all the setup procedures but every time I try to boot from the SSD windows 8 does not open correctly so it must not have downloaded right. Now I'm not sure what I can do because booting from the SSD only brings me to a page to try and diagnose PC problems and why windows 6 isn't working.

To install Windows you have to make a bootable disk or flash drive if that's how you choose to do it. You have to download the disk image and use a tool like [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] to burn it to the disk to make it bootable.
