Water is very very very VERY powerful. Tsunamis withdraw all shore line water and builds up into a wall of water that rushes in causes billions of dollars in damage then receeds about as quick as it comes in. It doesn't take much water at all to destroy an entire city. And all of that on top of a 8.0 Earthquake. Which would destroy probably everything anyway.
