Hall wrote Religion is a way of thinking. Its fine and dandy if you believe it, just don't TELL people that its true. To me, religion is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Its just something to fight over and debate. If God is so great and all powerful, how about he fixes the issues in this world? If he can apparently develop a whole world, why can't he fix the issues with it. Don't tell me "he is busy" or anything like that, it is said that he created the world basically instantly, if he can do that he can make a few quick fixes also. You believe in Christianity I'm guessing, and Jews believe in Judaism, and Muslims believe in Islam, and Buddhists believe in Buddhism, and Hindus believe in Hinduism, who is to say just one of those is right? And those aren't the only ones. How can so many religions exist? Because its controversial, it is uncertain, NO ONE KNOWS. Have you met God? Have you met Jesus? If you have you might've dreamt it, just as a child would dream of meeting their favorite celebrity. The point is, no religion has substantial proof, so don't say its true, because technically, non of it is. You can say you Believe in it, just don't push it onto others, they'll believe if they want to believe. I personally am atheist, if you couldn't tell by now, and I doubt many of you who saw this long paragraph even read it. I hear stuff all the time about religion this and religion that. You really notice how much religion is put into our lives once you rid yourself of it, its just more and more propaganda. Things happen sometimes that people can't explain, something like the creation of the universe and everything we know is one of those things. I believe God was a way to explain something that could not be explained at the time, and has been taken too far. (My opinion)
Its just something to fight over and debate.
This is true in modern society, however, Religion was first used as a control mechanism for Kings to instill fear in the minds of their underlings.
What greater deterrent to chaos than eternal Hellfire for doing wrong?
If God is so great and all powerful, how about he fixes the issues in this world?
God doesn't fix things that are wrong in the world because we have free will.
If he did fix things, there would have been no consequence for the fall of man and the invoking of Satan into the Bible story.
We are not robots and it is up to us to sort ourselves out.
The point is, no religion has substantial proof, so don't say its true, because technically, non of it is.
No religion would ever want substantial proof of their God's existence. This would destroy the concept of Faith and conviction which are two traits needed to gain access to paradise or heaven.
Logic is a curse from Lucipher according to Apocrypha, so facts and therefore science is also a curse upon humanity.
I believe God was a way to explain something that could not be explained at the time, and has been taken too far.
This is a great statement.
I am atheist.
I could spend hours writing down points as to why I am atheist but I have done it so many times in the past on this forum that I just don't see the point really.
This post will be closed and everyone will move on with the same opinions as they had when they clicked on it.

Like most people say, religion causes wars. I dont like extremist at all because they force people to join their religion. I just say for people who are of a religion, live it lightly. Im not apart of a religion btw.

My thoughts are I respect them all as long as they aren't hurting others. I personally am not going to believe any of them until I see major proof. I am always left open with the possibility of one or multiple of them being true though. I just live by Abraham Lincoln's quote: "When I do good, I feel good. When I do bad, I feel bad. That is my religion."

Great, we have a topic full of atheists. I'm going to offer something a bit different, a religious point of view on this. Sigh... here comes the downvotes.
What if I told you that your shoes were created by no one? That they just appeared out of thin air. Would you believe me? Of course not. Somebody made that shoe. Same thing with the world. I look at the world every day, and the miracles it contains. I look at how everything basically works together to create this world. If you look at cells, evolution, nature, life, climate, even the Big Bang Theory, I can't look at that and say "Oh, this all just happened by chance". There is a god. Now, religion on the other hand is a mixed bag. All religions have the same core values. Each religion however is centered around a prophet that came to the people and taught them the words of God. Now, people misinterpret things differently, so it's natural for one person to interpret something differently than another. Which is why the differences in religions like Judaism, Christianity, Islam, etc exist. The reason why there are different prophets is because one prophet couldn't travel all over the world in those days, so multiple people were needed to make sure everybody that was ready to be educated at a spiritual level was.
Also, in terms of the whole "religion causes wars" mantra. Yes, religion is the cause of some wars. However, due to the values and morals that are instilled in religion, religion honestly saves more lives and makes the world a better, rather than a worse place.

Leave a Reply on what you think, and again, don't post stupid things like "You're WRONG!" or "God is good" post a reasonable argument, anything else makes you look stupid. Please respect others and their views also. Thank you.

You have to keep in mind that America was founded to escape persecution. It's no wonder that families were so involved.
My final say, believe what you want.

Everyone needs something to believe in. That's my honest opinion. Doesn't have to be a god, just something. I cant put it into words..

Firstly, i'm looking for a debate, not an argument.

You see things in this way because Humans have evolved to fit the world.
I've used this analogy a lot before but it's the same as a puddle waking up in a hole and wondering how it fits the hole so perfectly.
The Big Bang is unexplained, yes. The formation of the Universe is still unexplained, that doesn't mean you can simply fill in the gaps by saying a God which relates to an Earthly religion did it.
What if there was an omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent alien who blew up his apartment while trying to make beer and here we are? That's equally as likely as it being a God.
Jesus shares shockingly similar traits with another, older son of a deity in the Pagan religion called Mithras whose story originated thousands of years before.
Including life, resurrection and mysterious disappearance along with the characters in his life such as the disciples.
How can this be a coincidence?
What is more likely is that the story of Mithras was twisted into what we now see as Jesus in order to confuse and distort the minds of people living in days of turmoil and sickness.
As for Religion making the world a better place, the Pope, for Religious reasons spread the word throughout Africa that condoms were ungodly and frowned upon.
Therefore leading to the massive spread of AIDs throughout the country.
Religion has charity work, they do it in the name of a God and for the purpose of pleasing that God.
Atheism also has charity work which is done out of a persons own free and good will.

My favorite view on religion is George Carlin's view(look him up on youtube if you wish). Anyway, I am atheist as well. I think religion is good, gives people community, but it limits thought too much.
