It really comes down to finding that one game that never gets stale. For me on consoles it's Gears of War 3 and Final Fantasy 13-2. If you don't try new game genres, you'll never know if you like RPGs or MMOs or RTS's. Staying in games like CoD and Battlefield only doesn't leave much variety. Try getting games that you never thought twice about. Just because critics say it's bad doesn't automatically mean it'll feel bad to you. Also, consider changing gaming platforms. I'm mainly an Xbox gamer, but when I get bored, things on PC like Garry's Mod and Team Fortress 2 are great changes of pace. Good luck mate!
