I hope you're kidding the one he has is by far better than that for one that's 2 GB of RAM, an i3 dual core can't do much either and you gave him even lower wattage than what he was getting plus the GPU is a downgrade from the 7850 he is buying.
Sorry, I was thinking about a different topic when i posted this, You should keep the 7870, The I3 has a slightly quicker speed at stock speeds, Although the 6300 can be overclocked, But he won't be doing that probably because it's his first build. The only advantage the 6300 has is multithreading. He could easily spend an extra 50gbp and upgrade to an i5.
Also, The PSU hes getting seem's to be a no name one, So even though its 450w it could only deliver say... 350w

that's what I was wondering XD i5 and i7 are really the only worth getting intel CPUs
The i3 3220 is a great CPU, Just because it has 2 cores that doesn't mean its bad. Also, the i7 has around an 1% preformance increase over the I5

I've just got an i3 and I can tell you now that it's not that quick. If I could go back in time, I'd go with a 6300 because you also get better/more features on a motherboard at the same price with AMD.
