can i suggest using a program called multi mc forkk.net i also have win 8 and it runs just fine. I never use the official minecraft launcher.

Open Minecraft then go to the taskmanager, go to Processes, Then Find The one That Says "Java (MT)" right click it and go to set priority and set it to high. Hope This Helps!
