The serial DE-9 connector has nothing to do with video output. It looks similar to a VGA connector, though. If your motherboard has only one video out and you have no discrete graphics card, then you won't be able to use more than one display.

A splitter will let you output the same signal two two different displays using one connection. That's not what you're after. If you don't have two different video outputs, then you won't be able to use two displays for an extended desktop.

You can't without adding new hardware. You'll need a USB to VGA adapter or a graphics card with a low-profile bracket and at least two video outs.
