I think that solipsism is something you have to seriously deal with as an epistemologist or metaphysician, in the same way that an ethicist has to seriously deal with nihilism.

In everyday life, there's no reason to be a solipsist.
However, in a theoretical sense, it's an interesting issue to address.
I think it applies to everyone, not just people who hold Cartesian views of the mind, as is often assumed... the fact is that you're not omniscient, and there is a gap between what you know about yourself and others.

Many philosophers give answers to solipsistic dilemmas, which I find interesting, considering that few if any philosophers take solipsism seriously, they always go through pains to refute it.
Mostly because, I think, it's disturbing, and something in the back of our minds worries us that we aren't quite as sure as we should be about these things.

It's a philosophical problem, not a legitimate position.
I don't think it can be solved, though.
It's just not as good a theoretical model of the world in my opinion.

Good post.

Oh, that's what it's called.

Well, yes I've thought about it and if everything has it's own life then technically it could be true, but it doesn't matter.

Confusing topic, but i have one question.. What are our actual bodies doing if the world around us is our imagination? Or is the idea of this that we are in a suspended state, where all we have is our imagination, and so construct the world around us using our imagination?

It's based on Idealism, the belief that nothing fundamentally exists.
Idealism states that we are simply spirit or soul.
The simple answer would be, there is no 'body.'
Everything that exists goes on inside your mental states.

I see, a very interesting concept to think about, but can be nothing much more than that unfortunately.

I tend to sit there and think about it then I try to explain to someone what I'm thinking of/feeling and they just think I'm crazy.
