well here are some god tips:

try to keep the flare size to a minimum because the flare will act as a focal point which is not what you want, i recommend using flares as outlines or if you really want it as a focal point.
example:

Try to maybe blend your colors in certain situations:
Examples:
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

And if you do logos i recommend maybe keying out a certain section you want the viewer to look at like in this next example the eye is drawn to the blue triangle:
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Also using your render as a part of the BG looks very nice as well
