My understanding is that the XNA Developer Program has now ceased development.

You can register for the Xbox Indie Games [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] which is 99 USD

Or you can use an [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] for free, and publish your game to several platforms. ;)

I immediately quit with XNA as soon as I heard it was to be discontinued, I don't see any point in going on with it - just use a pre-built game engine like Unity 3D...

I've had a Microsoft Employee talk about making games for Windows 8 and they suggest a wide variety of different things to use over XNA such as Unity as TomLandonHoppus suggested.

Another one is [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] which "is an Open Source implementation of the Microsoft XNA 4 Framework". If you still wish to work with XNA it is probably a wise idea to use MonoGame.

We'll see if Microsoft are pushing any new XNA (or similar) stuff soon I hope. However if rumours are true, the new console will be based on WinRT so you're better off trying to make apps for Windows 8 which you can do with MonoGame.
