Hello TTG. I am making this thread for the people who want to know more about Minecraft or for those who want to purchase Minecraft.
Overview: The genre of Minecraft is known as a sandbox/indie game. Minecraft was created and designed by Swedish programmer Marcus Persson or "Notch". The company Mojang later developed it. Minecraft has no specific goals for the player, giving the opportunity for players to explore their creativity. The game can be played in Third and First person views. The terrain is set into 4/5 categories known as "biomes". The timing system of the game uses a day/night cycle, popular in sandbox type games. 1 full cycle lasts 20 minutes at default. While exploring the world, the player will run into mobs. Some mobs are hostile and some are non-hostile. For the PC version, there are 3 versions
Survival Mode
Creative Mode
Adventure Mode
- In Survival Mode, players have to gather materials and resources such as wood to craft certain items. Monsters know as "Mobs" attack the players which exercises the need for the player to build a shelter. The player has a health bar. The health bar goes down when a player is attacked or falls into lava, falls down holes ect. In edition to the health bar, the player has 2 other bars displaying hunger and armour. The armour bar is the resistance to attack your player has. The better the material the armour is made out of, the more resistant to attack the player becomes. The players health will still go down, regardless of armour if your hunger is exhausted. The hunger bar will gradually go down the longer the player doesn't eat food. Once the hunger bar is taken down by a certain amount, the player is penalised by not being able to sprint. Health will replenish if the hunger bar is near full. Players can craft various items using a crafting table.
Players can craft Armour, weapons, tools such as pickaxes, axes, and swords. Players can also make food if they have the right ingredients. The better the resources gathered, the more efficient weapons and items can be crafted. In later versions, the player has an experience bar. The experience bar is a representation of a level. The higher the level, the more XP is needed to progress to the next level. XP (Experience Points) can be gained by smelting ore in furnaces, mining, killing mobs and other ways. The XP can then be used in an enchanting table.
The enchanting table has to be surrounded by book cases with a 1 block gap around the table. Depending on the order and how many book cases you have around the table, will effect the level of enchantment on an item. The highest level of enchantment a player can achieve is 30. So there isn't much point in proceeding past level 30. The player can enchant various items such as swords, pickaxes, axes as well as armour pieces. The enchantments can give an advantage to the player. The player may only get 1 level 4 enchantment on an item, or get 1 level 4 enchantment, and 2 level 3 enchantments, it is entirely random.
The player has an inventory system. If a player dies, the inventory is dropped on the floor. It takes 5 minutes* for a players inventory to despawn (disappear) giving the player an opportunity to recover their items, unless recovered by another player. If the player falls into lava and dies, then most (if not all the inventory) will drop into the lava, destroying the items.
Players can use chests to store items in. This is useful as a player may not want to take his full inventory and items on a mining run for example. If the chest is destroyed, the items will drop on the ground (just like when a player is killed). When playing public servers, it is wise to hide your chests to prevent items being stolen. A player should place a chest behind a piston door for example or place it a few blocks underground noting the coordinates of the chest. It is also wise to note down the contents of the chest, just in case anyone "stumbles" across the chest.
- In Creative Mode, the player has access to most of the worlds resources via the inventory menu. The player can instantly place as many blocks as they like. The player can also instantly delete the block too. The player does not take damage from mobs or other players unless changed via the options*. The player does not take damage or is penalised from hunger.
- Adventure Mode was created so players could explore custom maps and settings created by other users. The player is restricted in what they can do unless given permissions. By default, a player will not be able to destroy/place blocks. A player may also not be able to attack and kill other players.
*Note, for the Xbox version, these settings can be toggled on survival and creative mode*.
- Multiplayer -
Multiplayer is ran through player hosted servers. Or a hosting company.
Player hosted servers are normally LAN servers which players can only connect to locally.
A good way for a player to set up a server for friends is to use a programme such a LogMeIn Hamchi.
- Platforms -
Minecraft was initially released on PC on May 17th 2009 as an alpha. Then on November 18th 2011, the full version was released on PC.
The IOS version was released on November the 17th 2011.
The android version was released on October the 7th 2011.

- Downloading and Installing Minecraft-
*Note: This tutorial follows after you have bought it from the "Buy Now" Tab.
Before you buy it, register.*
Navigate to here: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Click "Download" [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Click the blue link "Minecraft.exe" [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
If you are using Chrome (Like me) then click "Minecraft" at the bottom. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Click "Run" [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
The launcher should pop up.
From the launcher, log in at the bottom.
Once logged in, it should update. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Now you can exit Minecraft if you wish.
- Options Tuning-
Options tuning is helpful for player who want either Graphics or Performance or a balance.
But first: Navigate to your downloads folder. The path should be something like C:\Users\<Your User>\Downloads.
Find Minecraft, click and drag it onto your desktop to create the shortcut. Now you can just double click Minecraft on your desktop and it will go to the launcher screen. Simply log in or click "Remember Me". (Not recommended on a shared PC).
Back to options tuning:
- Graphics -
From the main menu, click options. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
For a graphics build.. change these settings to what you want.
Id recommend these settings:
Click Video Settings:
Graphics: Fancy
Smooth Lighting: Maximum
3D Anaglyph: OFF
GUI Scale: Auto
Brightness: Adjust Accordingly
Particles: All
Fullscreen: Adjust Accordingly
Render Distance: See below
Performance: Max FPS

Now for Render Distance, it all depends on if you want Performance or Graphics.
It is also dependant on weather you have a 32 or 64 bit along with a 32 or 64 bit Java Run Time system. First of all:
To find out if you have a 32 or 64 bit Windows Operating System, Press Start and search "Welcome Center".
Click "Welcome Center".
Click "Show More Details" [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Now under system it should say System Type: 32-bit Operating System or 64-bit Operating System.
If you are using a 32-bit Operating System download this file [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
64-bit Users use this link: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Click the "jre-7u21..." at the bottom. The set up is self explanatory.
-Downloading and Installing Texture Packs-
Texture packs change the look of the blocks and other ingame items.
For this tutorial, I will be using the Sphax PureBDCraft Texture Pack.
Sphax PureBDCraft Texture Pack Textures:
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Go to [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Click "Pack" at the top.
Scroll down and click "Download".
Judging on your PC, you can use higher resolution texture packs or lower resolution texture packs. I will be using the recommended 128x128 Texture pack. Now judging on what Minecraft version you have will determine on what version you download. On the Minecraft Launcher, click "Options" above "Login" and click "Force Update". This will update to the latest version. Then just click done and Launch Minecraft. It should Update.
Now on the main menu, It should say "1.5.1" Which is the latest version. So download the 1.5.0 Texture pack. (It should still work).
Clicking The 1.5.0 Box will take you to a thetechgame.org link, wait 5 seconds and click skip in the top right.
The download should automatically start.
If using chrome, click the arrow and click "Show in Folder". If using another browser then just find the folder in the Downloads folder and drag it to the desktop.
Once at the desktop, Create a new folder called "Sphax Texture Pack".
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Now just click and drop the Zipped file into the folder you just created.
Open "Sphax Texture Pack".
Right click the RAR file and click "Extract Here".
Now drag the RAR file back onto the desktop.
Go back onto the Minecraft Launcher and then click "Options".
Now click the "Game Location On Disk" Link. Now you should see 2 folders called "texturepacks" and "texturespacks-mp".
Go back to the desktop and right click and Copy the "Sphax Texture Pack".
Now open the "texturepacks" folder, right click and hit paste. Do the same for the "texturepacks-mp" Folder too.
Now Launch Minecraft.
Click "Options"
Then "Texture Packs"
Then click the "Sphax" Texture pack.
It may take a while to load.
Then click Done.
That concludes this thread. I may add a Tekkit Installation and a LogMeIn Hamachi section as well as server set up depending on the reception this thread receives. I hope this thread helps.
