SOG - Mission 1/13
The player finds himself in the thick of the jungle fighting VC. One section involves the player crawling along trenches with enemy flamethrowers blazing overhead (similar to the scene in Call of Duty: World at War, where Reznov and Dimitri escape German flamethrowers in a collapsing building).

The Defector - Mission 2/13
In this level, you discover the main plot of Black Ops; Mason is being interrogated in a dark room lined with monitors. There's also a strange drug being fed into his bloodstream via needle. The entire game is based around Mason in this room having flashbacks to the various military operations he participated in. This interrogation room is seen at the beginning of the teaser trailer, by the dialog it seems that the interrogators are trying to get Mason to remember the experiences ("this will help you to remember everything, "and maybe something extra to assist"). The "something extra" to assist is probably the drug.

Numbers - Mission 3/13
This mission involves torturing a prisoner as Hudson, along with Weaver and Clarke, something the player does himself with context-sensitive commands. When torturing the prisoner, Mason will smash a glass window, then place a shard in the mouth of the prisoner, punching his jaw several times.

The level takes place in Kowloon, Hong Kong.

After the torture scene, the North Vietnamese Army discover their positions and the player will have to jump over rooftops from them.

Project Nova - Mission 4/13
Project Nova is a single player level in Call of Duty: Black Ops. The main objective in this level is to destroy the biological weapon called codenamed Nova-6.

Victor Charlie - Mission 5/13
In this mission the player will start off in a crashed helicopter and will have to make their way upstream swimming with only a knife. After crossing the river, the player with Mason meets Frank Woods, Swift and other members of SOG fight in the one Vietcong village. After this, the player and Swift enter in a Vietcong tunnel to seek where Kravtchenko is.

Operation 40 - Mission 6/13
Operation 40 is a single player level in Call of Duty: Black Ops, and is so far the only confirmed level to feature a playable CIA operative.

Vorkuta - Mission 7/13
Vorkuta is a single player level in Call of Duty: Black Ops.[1] This level will take place in Russia in the Vorkuta Gulag.

Executive Order- Mission 8/13
Executive Order is a single player level in Call of Duty: Black Ops. Confirmed via Achievements.

Crash Site - Mission 9/13
Crash Site is a single player level in Call of Duty: Black Ops. In the Reveal Trailer, a helicopter can be seen crashing in Hue City, Vietnam. From the revealed achievements, it is known that the Slaughterhouse campaign mission was renamed. It is most likely that this mission was Slaughterhouse since it took place in Hue City and that there was a "Crash Site" there.

WMD - Mission 10/13
The player (as Thomas) is approaching an SR-71 Blackbird reconnaissance aircraft which sits on a runway in a California Airbase. After approaching the vehicle, Thomas is saluted and begins to board the plane. After requesting for takeoff, the player is told "Your aircraft sir". The pilot (the player) is then prompted to press a control to engage the boosters, then must pull back on the thumb-stick (or equivalent) to begin the ascent. After a short cinematic of Big Eye 6 in orbit, the screen cuts to a first person view of the cockpit.
The view is that of a thermal screen where the four man team (Kilo 1 - SOG) can be seen prone in the snow. Thomas' job is to assist them passing enemy patrols. After providing them with recon, the screen fades, and the player assumes control of Hudson, one of the members of the SOG squad below. Throughout the beginning of the level the view switches between characters as the squad approaches enemies.

The player lies prone in the snow with his squad-mates on his flanks, with his crossbow. Power lines can be seen in the distance. Heavy breathing can be heard. At that moment, a group of Russian soldiers on patrol slowly creep by north. Luckily, the squad is not detected and the troops continue on their path.

The objective is to make way to a sub station. The point of interest is that of a weapons manufacturing facility. Making their way down the snowy trails, SOG is met by their first enemies. Shouldering the crossbow, the player picks off any targets while remaining completely silent. Continuing further down, the player is then required to hook up and rappel down the steep face of a mountain. After hooking up their ropes and beginning their descent, the player is required to manually rappel down the cliff face. Rappelling a second time and shooting through the facility's windows with suppressed AUG prototype rifles, SOG is immediately met by a horde of Russian soldiers. Once the substation is taken, the objective is updated and the player is required to move to the "com-stat".

Going further down the mountain, SOG soon meet a group of enemies that require a bit more firepower. Switching over to explosive tips on the modified crossbow, the enemies are quickly eliminated. After taking out the enemy troops and taking the storage shed, the player moves onto the power room.

Alarms are sounding, enemy chatter can be heard. Switching to an assault rifle, the player heads towards the power room. Moving behind their teammate, he opens a door and is immediately met face to face with an enemy, resulting in the teammate killing the enemy with a throwing knife, in the neck. Making headway through the facility, the opposition is heavy. Chaos ensues, but only shortly as the player and his teammate quickly kill the enemies inside the facility. Moving to the objective, the player finds the relay and yanks the fuses from the box, rendering the station useless.

Once the SOG have cleared the mountain and completed the objective, jumping across opening crevices pursues, and the player follows the team to what is hoped to be safety, before a Russian troop fires an RPG at the bridge, killing Brooks after falling off the bridge. Then again, another is at the face of the cliff, resulting in a large avalanche. As the snow rushes behind, the SOG team have no choice but to jump.

It has been stated that there will be no tutorial on how to control the helicopter.

Redemption - Mission 13/13
Redemption is a single player level in Call of Duty: Black Ops. Also confirmed from achievements.

Call of duty Black ops: Preview

The Call of Duty series is one of the most well-know gaming franchises and for good reason. Both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare games and Call of Duty: World at War have offered realistic visuals, heart-pounding action, intense combat, well-developed storylines, an expansive multiplayer mode, and explosive set-pieces and firefights that could only be seen in a high budget Hollywood film. Call of Duty: Black Ops, the seventh game in the wildly popular series, intends to one-up its predecessors with a more varied campaign and gameplay, and new online features.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
- Move over DeNiro, there's a new Deer Hunter in town -
Unlike previous Call of Duty titles and unlike most first-person shooters, Black Ops' storyline tells the stories of different soldiers through history, allowing players to assume the role of various characters throughout the campaign mode. Each level will have its own setting, missions, and weapons according to the time period and location. From screenshots and video, the storyline appears to take place mostly during the Cold War era. With the success of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, however, there will be little surprise if at some point the storyline takes place during present day. The radical change in time and environments will span across more than ten levels and will send players to various locales like Russia, Laos, Cuba, and Vietnam. Soldiers will need to battle through tropical forests, snowy mountains, deserts, and more to experience the whole campaign. Although the storylines will vary, each focuses on military cover-ups and Special Forces conducting black-ops behind enemy lines.

With the overall storyline focusing on black-ops, the campaign mode will include more opportunities at stealth. Players will also have the opportunity to drive vehicles including a helicopter and a Blackbird, and scripted cinematic moments appear to be more frequent and varied. Black Ops will also feature a dedicated cooperative campaign for up to four players that offers different levels and scenarios than the single-player campaign.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
- The shifting campaign focus will keep things interesting -
Of course, it wouldnt be Call of Duty without an online multiplayer component and COD: Black Ops offers more customization and modes than ever before. Online players will be able to customize their soldiers with new gameplay-effecting perks and visual enhancements like personalized gear and weapon decals. Game types will not only include standard team deathmatch, capture the flag, sabotage, and domination variants, but a new mode called Combat Training, in which, either offline or online and either alone or cooperatively, players can combat AI opponents with selectable difficulties.

The premiere first-person shooter series that is Call of Duty will continue the good fight with Call of Duty: Black Ops this November 9th.

Major Graphical Issue Spotted in Black Ops

The latest episode of GTTV was a Call of Duty: Black Ops special. Usually before any footage from a big budget title is released, it is scrutinized by several people before it is deemed viewable by the consuming masses. However, it looks like these clipping issues passed many of the marketing team and the developers by.

Sergeant Woods, to the right of the image is sitting in the passenger side of the jeep and you can see how the back of his clothes seem to clip into the 3D mesh of the car seat. In the shot below its only clipping a little but. Click to enlarge images.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
As the footage continues it gets progressively worse.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
It could be that the new motion capture systems seen in movies like Avatar and games like Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain have allowed the animators to not check each animation as thoroughly as they used to.
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
It is important to note that this is still early footage and the game has not yet gone gold, so there is still time for issues such as this to be fixed. Despite these issues, the graphics on the whole look incredible, and this issue will most likely be fixed when the game is released. Still, I hope there aren't more similar instances throughout the story sequences in the game.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is releasing November 9 2010 on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC and DS.

Gameplay Tips From The Official Xbox Magazine

The game isn't out yet, but the Official Xbox Magazine is teasing us with some multiplayer tips:
Racking up CoD Points: Pick only contracts that you know you can complete and redo them once they are available again.

Use new tricks: "Radiation" map has big doors that can be opened/closed by pressing a button; they force players to take different routes. "Launch" map has a huge rocket that takes off, so in the Search and Destroy gamemode plant the bomb when the rocket is about to launch; the rocket's exhaust will prevent the enemy from getting to the bomb for 10-15 seconds.

Defence loadout: Use the jammer, it will blackout the enemy radar; the enemy won't know what's happening around them.

Offence loadout: Use the RPK Light Machine Gun, it's extremely effective.

Mock the weak: Humiliate people by using a stun grenade to slow them down, after that throw a Tomahawk at them.
The OXM will be in stores this week and has more tips on their six-page guide to the game.

PC: Minimum System Requirements Revealed

irect2Drive has revealed the minimum system requirements that you will need to play Black Ops on your PC. These aren't "official", but should be legit since it's from D2D:
[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
The requirements have gone up since Modern Warfare 2. Your PC now needs to have a two/three core processor, MW2 only needed one. Memory requirements have gone up from 1GB to 2GB and you will also need a better graphics card. (Or you could buy a Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3)

Call of Duty Black Ops: Hardened Pro Perk revealed

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
The much hyped and anticipated details about the Hardened Pro Perk of Call of Duty: Black Op has finally been revealed via this image.
Although, the text is very vague in the image, our designers has figured out what exactly it reads! Find out below -

It reads -
Hardened Pro
Bullets penetrate better.
-Bullets do extra damage to aircrafts and turrets.
Reduced flinch when you are shot.

There you go, its finally out of the bag, good perk we must say but considering its supposed to be best perk in the game, we didnt expect anything less from it.

Rumor: Activison to Charge for a YouTube Type Service

With the recent backlash coming from Activison in regards to Black Ops Beta videos, Pixel Enemy did a little digging and have come up with two different theories as to why Activison have pulled all Call of Duty: Black Ops videos from the internet.

Its been rumored before that Activison would charge a subscription fee for future Call of Duty games, however Activison has always denied this claim. Could this be the subscription service that analysts such as Michael Patcher were talking about?

Are Activison getting ready to launch a Bungie Pro type of service or are they just pissed that the Black Ops footage was posted? Jay and Mark breakdown each scenario and come up with a conclusion. What do you guys think?

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Preview

At Los Angeles's Exposition Park, in a hangar-like chamber packed with demo pods, Treyarch studio chief Mark Lamia is greeting the world's press. This is the Black Ops multiplayer reveal event, the latest expensive, well-organised hype-fest in Activision's multimillion-dollar marketng campaign. "We've never been more fired up than we have been this year about Call Of Duty: Black Ops," he states. "We've done the best work we've ever done." It is the standard pre-release schtick and we've all heard it before. But Lamia is unguardedly earnest. He means it. And he has to.

The expectations for Black Ops are immense. Not only is this the first Call Of Duty title snce the record-breaking Modern Warfare 2, it's also the first since the high-profile disintegration of Infinity Ward following the sackings of studio heads Jason West and Vince Zampella. Black Ops is the defining title in a new era, an era in which the kings of COD are dead, and Activision will seek to split its mega-franchise across multiple genres and studios. Treyarch, always the dependable holding midfielder of the COD development regime, is now moving into a forward position.

Treyarch studio chief Mark Lamia

It's something the team is taking immensely seriously. Black Ops is certainly Treyarchs best looking game. Using an updated version of the in-house World At War engine, running at 60fps with texture streaming and a host of cutting-edge dynamic lighting techniques, its a dizzying cavalcade of explosions, environmental destruction and spraying blood. But more importantly, it is clearly also the developers most ambitious project in terms of telling a story and exploring structure. In the wake of World At War, the decision was made pretty quickly to move beyond the safe confines of WWII, and to shake up the established conventions of the whole series. The Cold War era, comparatively unexplored by game-makers, seemed the perfect spot to settle.

When we approached the period, we didnt want to limit ourselves to one conflict, says Lamia. We did a lot of research on Vietnam - its such a significant conflict in that era. We looked at the Bay of Pigs, at CIA operations there was clearly a lot of activity in Africa and South America. We could have ended up going almost anywhere in the world. But what we homed in on were black operations. And when we did that, it meant we could use historical conflicts as a backdrop - so while the game weaves its way through South East Asia, and youre there when the Tet offensive is kicking off, its not about the Vietnam war.

The team began researching pre-Delta Force units, small teams of specialist operatives employed throughout the 50s and 60s in deniable operations, usually with an anti-communist agenda. They hit on the Studies and Observations Group, formed in 1964, which dealt in unconventional and psychological warfare tactics during the Vietnam conflict. A former SOG soldier, John Plaster, was brought in to provide background detail. Plaster has written a book about his experiences, and these began to form the basis of the Black Ops narrative. The designers also consulted Hank Keirsey, the retired Lieutenant Colonel who has advised COD teams since the very first title. He related his experiences of commanding a mechanised company in Germany in the early 80s, training soldiers to react in the event of a Soviet invasion.

So we had a timeline of everything that was going on in the world through that time, and we had an idea of the type of game we wanted to make, explains Lamia. We wanted to emphasise the variety of locales We wanted people to feel there was a lot of variety in the environments, but also in the objectives, the pacing - there are a lot of different kinds of levels. And we weave this through the historical backdrop.

There is certainly variety. The three singleplayer levels Treyarch has revealed so far all take place in 1968, but over very different locales. The mission named Victor Charlie is a bloody slog through the jungles of Vietnam, with playable character Sergeant Mason surviving a helicopter crash before swimming along the Huong River, attacking a Viet Cong village and finally escaping through the hellish tunnel system. Payback allows the player to control a helicopter (a first for the series) as it takes off from a prison camp in Laos, strafing terrified enemy soldiers and indulging in fraught air-to-air combat with other choppers. Then theres WMD, featuring a raid on a weapons manufacturing facility perched on the frozen heights of the Ural mountains.

This is all fine for gameplay diversity, but the worry is well get a repeat of the Modern Warfare 2 storyline - an incoherent globetrotting mish-mash of vaguely associated set-pieces. Lamia recognises the concern, but is adamant that Treyarch has reined all of these components into a cogent narrative experience. At its centre is the very idea of secrecy, of ambiguity. The cool thing is, well, do you really know why the Bay of Pigs happened? he asks. Maybe that was just a cover for something. Maybe it wasnt. You wouldnt know. Back then the communications were different, the way things were reported was different - so if you have that mindset, you can get an idea of the creative approach on this game.

Lamia wont say, but it seems Black Ops will not be using a conventional war game narrative. Early teasers featured a sequence in which a soldier is apparently tied down and injected with some sort of performance-enhancing narcotic. When asked whether Jacobs Ladder, Adrian Lynes movie about a group of US soldiers experimented on with psychoactive drugs, was an influence, Lamia merely smiles and replies: There were a lot of influences. Ive been incredibly vague on the story because I think its going to be the thing that surprises people the most. Its unlike any other COD game, its entirely original.

Heres what I can tell you, he continues after not much badgering. The story is being told from the moment you put in your disc, to the end of the campaign. You do play some different characters along the way, but it is literally its going to challenge you to figure out whats going on. Its so immersive, the story is so tied to everything youre doing - you wont be saying: I dont see how the story and the gameplay are connected, but you may be saying: How do all the pieces fit together? Youll need to make sense of it all - because this is black ops. We embraced everything that was going on in that era in a very big way.

Multiplayer is another area in which Treyarch is making its mark on COD convention. The developer has taken the XP upgrades system thats marked the last three titles and added a currency in the form of COD Points. Players earn these by playing in ranked multiplayer games and can then spend them on weapons and equipment that would not otherwise be available at their current rank. They cant simply save up and buy everything, though - some weapon classes still need to be unlocked through the XP ranking system, so you still need to be a good, experienced player to get hold of the most devastating weaponry.

To get the most out of the points system, the design team has added two new game features: Contracts and Wagers. In the former, players are able to take on specific time-limited tasks within multiplayer sessions: Mercenary contracts pay you for making a required number of kills; Operation contracts reward effective team-based gaming; and Specialist contracts provide offbeat projects to complete amid the fragging.

The Wager mode is likely to be the star of the show, however, providing four dedicated multiplayer game types which allow players to bet on their performance - only those who finish in the top three will see any cash. Here, One In The Chamber is a deathmatch in which each player has just one bullet, and if thats wasted theyre down to melee, while Gun Game is a new version of a cult Counter-Strike mode in which players work their way through a range of different weapons, upgrading each time they make a successful kill. Its frenzied, hugely competitive stuff, and the emphasis on mastering the full range of the COD arsenal will have hardcore fans salivating.

Multiplayer design director David Vonderhaar

The addition of cash has already proven controversial, though, with some inevitably worrying that the in-game currency will soon be accompanied by the chance to use real money. Multiplayer design director David Vonderhaar, however, thinks COD Points are just a neat idea that will expose and exploit our base attitudes to money management: When we said its time to evolve the unlock system, and we came up with the idea of COD Points, we started to look at different types of people and what they do with money. Some invest it, so bam, theres the Contract mode, but some go to Vegas every weekend - hence the Wagers. COD Points provide a microcosm of the capitalist world in a game!

Originally developed as an internal level-design tool, the Combat Training mode is another key newcomer, allowing players to set up custom competitions against AI-controlled foes. As Vonderhaar explains, They have some smart behaviours, theyll try to steal care packages, theyll call in killstreak rewards, but theyre practice dummies, and theyre called dummies for a reason. Its a good way for you to get the vibe of multiplayer without people insulting your mom. Customisation has also been brought to the fore with an emblem editor allowing clans to add logos to weapons, and a theatre mode which records bouts and lets you edit them. Its a neat, intuitive and expansive system that should see some stylish shootout sequences hitting YouTube.

So far, four multiplayer maps have been shown off, and they all look and feel like very solid Call Of Duty standards. Launch is a dense, multi-level military base, complete with rocket launch pad; Radiation is a disintegrating Russian nuclear outpost; Cracked is an urban wasteland of detonated shops and crater-lined streets; and Summit is the sparse snow level, with another cluster of military-industrial buildings. Its classic stuff, filled with raised, semi-hidden viewpoints for sniping thrills, winding corridors and central spaces for all-out battles. Theres a clever interplay of spaces like stairwells and passageways, allowing enemies to blast at each other as they rush from one set-piece locale to the next. Its consummate multiplayer design.

This is a ground-based infantry shooter - you have to get the engagement distances right, says Vonderhaar. We have rules. I have a Powerpoint presentation thats a hundred pages deep about what good engagement ranges are, and visual cues, and about continuous paths versus bends, and what colours things need to be to contrast. Its called the MP Level Design Bible and we take it very seriously. But rules are there to be broken and once you have a base map in place that follows those rules, you can start to do some weird things to it.

One of those weird things is the new interactive scenery. On several of the maps, there are buttons to press to open doors or cue timed events, like space rockets launching, that provide a focus beyond the shooting. I dont think the community has fully grasped the importance of this, says Josh Olin, Treyarchs community manager. Take Launch, for example, where the rocket takes off. If youre under it you die, but one of the Search and Destroy bomb sites is under there, and theres a Demolition site under there too. You have to time your attacks based around when that rockets going to go off - and you can use that to win the game. In CTF, Ive practised with my team here at Treyarch to capture the enemy flag, take it down through that route at just the right time, so the rocket launches and the guys who are chasing me cant get under there and have to turn round.

Treyarch community manager. Josh Olin

In Radiation, theres a set of blast doors that can only be opened and closed via a control panel on a platform nearby. This could well prove decisive in the Domination mode, as Olin points out: If youve captured that point, it might be valuable to send a couple of guys up there to take the control panel and close the doors. Now the only point of attack is down through the tunnels - so you know where theyre going to come from, they cant jump in from above. It can really change how the battle plays out.

And, naturally, there are new perks and killstreak rewards to discover. Some are re-skinned and slightly tweaked versions of familiar favourites: the UAV becomes a spy plane, the artillery strike becomes a mortar team, and the attack dogs are, well, the attack dogs (but much more deadly, apparently). There are complete newcomers, too. Most reports have pinpointed the amusing remote-control car, a reward for three consecutive kills that lets you speed a load of explosives toward any unwary enemy. Its tough to control, though, often getting hung up on scenery or whizzing straight past your target, but then if it was too easy to use it would quickly become an over-familiar nuisance.

Thats part of the balancing, which - judging by the version playable at Treyarchs multiplayer reveal event in September - is expertly judged. It all comes down to playtesting, explains Vonderhaar. Every evening between three and five, we playtest the maps. Anybody on the teams invited, everyone rallies into the designer bullpen, then we do the pass-the-controller game - so whoever has the joypad is allowed to talk. We ask: What was one thing you liked? What was one thing you didnt like? Then they pass the controller on. Sometimes this thing can take half an hour, sometimes its an hour and a half, and finally Im like: Get back to work!

There are several elements of the game yet to be announced. Its widely known that there will be fourplayer co-op, but Treyarch is keeping the details secret. And the Nazi Zombie mode, so popular in World At War, is certain to return. Indeed, the way the story behind that mode was later developed and explored in subsequent DLC may well hint at a crowd-sourced episodic future for Black Ops. As Lamia explains, We continued to evolve [Nazi Zombies] after World At War - there was a dialogue going on with some of our hardcore community, and we were able to interact with the community and evolve - we did that with our zombie lore.

And I expect that there will be some ways to do that with this game. We think its cool to be able to provide additional creative content - were looking at this game almost as though its a platform entry into something thats ongoing. Im not going to tell you thats our entire focus, but its part of our genetic make up here that were going to do stuff like that. So, is he talking about a continuing story exploring the Cold War into the 70s and 80s, via downloadable episodes? There might be bits and pieces in Black Ops. I definitely think theres something very exciting about interacting in a live way, and being able to respond. With online connectivity, I just need a couple of back doors in order to introduce new things. And then the resources and time to work on them!

Theres certainly a sense at Treyarch that Black Ops will be the teams defining achievement. This is the one it gets to experiment with, whether that means a non-linear, narcotic-tinged narrative or a game that expands off into the future via crowd-sourced downloadable plot extensions. A rejuvenated Infinity Ward may well grab back all the attention if it announces Modern Warfare 3, but for now, Call Of Duty is all about this veteran studio from Santa Monica, which believes it has produced its best game ever.

Analysis: predicting success of Black Ops launch

November 9th doesnt bring the release of the most anticipated game of the yearthat honor arguably goes to Blizzards Starcraft II--but Activisions Call of Duty: Black Ops will be the most popular game of 2010. In fact, the question on most peoples minds is not whether it will be a commercial success, but whether it can break the record sales of Modern Warfare 2.

Every indicator points to record-breaking sales for Black Ops
When Black Ops was first announced, many gamers were initially somewhat skeptical. Sure, the change of locale and time period was interesting, but Call of Duty games have become an annual affair for several years now. Moreover, the game is being developed by Treyarch, known to some gamers as the company who made the bad Call of Duty games. While its true that Treyarch was once the B team, the rift between Activision and series creator Infinity Wards principals has left the company as the lead on the franchise.

With yet another change in time period, and numerous tweaks to the multi-player formula, gamers have now seen that Treyarch will not be content to release a cash-cow title. Call of Duty has an incredibly strong brand image, but continued success demands something special. As an avid gamer and a fan of Infinity Wards Modern Warfare sub-series in the franchise, everything I have seen pre-release is a positive sign. This doesnt even take into account the fact that this will be the first major console game released with 3D capability.

When Modern Warfare 2 released at almost the exact same time last year, it become the single biggest launch of an entertainment product in history. First day sales were 4.7 million units, with approximately $310 million total revenue. Five-day sales up to the first weekend hit around 8 million units and revenue of $550 million.

The leaves some pretty big shoes for Treyarch and Black Ops to fill. To predict how the game will do, there are a few things we can take a look at. While the launch of Halo: Reach was impressive for an Xbox 360-exclusive title, the figures met our expectations. First month sales have been equal to those of Halo 3, despite being available to a larger install base.

The next high profile shooter to release was EAs Medal of Honor earlier this week. While EA says that Medal of Honor has already become profitable, its done that by selling a 1.5 million units to date. Part of the games slow (in terms of expectations) sales can be attributed to mediocre press reviews, but it also stands to reason that many gamers are simply waiting for Black Ops to release. In fact, the weaker the sales for Medal of Honor, the better Black Ops will do. At any time, but especially now, its difficult to justify spending $60 on two relatively similar games that release only a month apart.

Add to this the fact that both U.S. retailer GameStop and major U.K. retailers such as HMV and GAME have indicated at numerous times that pre-orders are stronger for Black Ops than they were for Modern Warfare 2 and were in record-breaking category. While PS3 sales have slowed somewhat in 2010, Xbox 360 sales have been white hotleaving both of the core FPS consoles with significantly larger install bases for the game to reach.

Prediction: 5.5 million units on day one, 10 million units by the end of November.

Stay tuned on November 9th and thereafter for news about what will be the biggest entertainment launch yet! If you are still on the fence about which version to buy, check out our previous guide to the different platforms for the game.

Black Ops Pushing All The Right Buttons?

Most of you will be aware that Treyarch is very close to releasing its latest HUGE first person shooting game, Call of Duty Black Ops, if you were not aware of this then you probably live in a very dark cave with a piccolo and a lunchbox. Black Ops is set for a promising unveiling on November 9th, and there is a mixture of excitement and unease surrounding the next instalment of gamings biggest competitive multiplayer.

If you are still sitting on the fence about whether or not to pick up Black Ops, then let me outline the improvements Treyarch have been tirelessly implementing into the core online experience. In a bold move towards refining the multiplayer, Treyarch have modified the killstreak mechanic by not allowing any kills that players get using an already earned reward, to contribute towards the next killstreak. So this means no more ridiculous chains of pre-set kills, and it also means players can only get killstreaks the old fashioned way by getting their own hands dirty up close, which in my opinion changes everything in a fantastic way.

Another neat little change that Treyarch hopes will balance things out a lot more is that each killstreak reward is now interactive in a significant way. For example, instead if calling for a chopper gunner and then letting them wreck havoc on players while you laugh manically in the corner, you will now man the helicopters chain gun yourself. This in theory will force a new element of skill into using the rewards for them to be effective. There will be brand new perks for you to toy with, and curiously the first perk slot influences how your character looks (e.g. flak jacket, helmet) so this makes them distinctly identifiable.

When online you can now also dive to a prone position, the idea being to throw in some evasive manoeuvres to ease up the bloodbathslightly. The expandable player map is now handily divided up into quadrants, so you can now co-ordinate attacks and experiment with different tactical approaches far more easily now. The shotgun is now categorized as a primary weapon, so if you choose to use one, you actually have to have a play style that compliments it, because its going to be your main killing tool when you play.

As if that wasnt enough, the developers are reintroducing the critically acclaimed Zombie Mode, where you must battle against increasingly large waves of brain eating undead, and better yet there is now a theatre mode that enables you to revisit matches as a spectator to either analyse how the match went or to edit together the greatest ownage video ever. But is this enough? Many fans played Modern Warfare 2 online but got fed up with it after a month, so will Black Ops hold your attention this time around? We all know another CoD is coming next year, so does 12 months sound about right for you

Are you a hardcore Call of Duty fan? Do you need to have everything Black Ops-related when it launches in just 18 days time? Do you have more money than sense? Well, this may be the bundle for you.

GAME.co.uk currently has a 'Call of Duty: Black Ops Mega Bundle' available for pre-order, containing a standard edition copy of the game, plus a 12 month Xbox Live Gold subscription with free Black Ops t-shirt, a Call of Duty: Black Ops Xbox 360 PrecisionAIM Controller, a Call of Duty: Black Ops Dolby Surround Gaming Headset and a strategy guide.

A nice package admittedly, but how much does it cost? You might want to be sitting down...

One for the Call of Duty-devotee only, then. Which confuses us slightly.
