so i want to start a project creating a first person shooter. i want to create it so it works on windows. i do know a lot of c++ and some c programming. i am looking to start this project and start the basics for now and eventually carry on the project and in the future make it multiplayer compatible and add it onto steam. im not sure what game engine to use or what programming languange to use. in september i am going onto a programming language course, making games in c/c++ and java and then i am going to university to carry it on, that is why i want to add multiplayer in the future when i know alot more about coding. i do not what a game engine which will do all of the work for me. i want to get deep into the program so i understand how the coding which i will write works and i will know how to upgrade it to the way i want it. i know a game is really hard to make but i was thinking of starting a first person shooter such as a zombies game. any suggestions will really help. the only problem i think i will have is that if i dont code it in the right language now then in the future i may not be able to make it multiplayer friendly and be able to upload it to steam for others to play. also if anybody would like to help with this project then im happy for that but please show me exactly what you have coded and how the coding works.

I see a lot of "I want" there... You're thinking a little too big.

You know this will take a long time, this is not a week projects. This can take months, even years. Well, for me I'm a perfectionist. BTW, Look into the Unity Engine. it's really powerful.

Congratulations, you can code basic things.

Which means you're lacking models, textures, animations, etc.

So your FPS will have no guns, people or anything.

Just because you can Code in C++ doesn't mean you are able to make a game, you need animators, Map designers, etc.

It also isn't just a week thing making games, It can take Years.

i understand that, that is what i am saying. i am starting this project and it will take years yes but i'm going on a game programming course in september for 2 years at college and then carrying it on at university for 1 year after and i am ready to commit to this kind of project. i want a job in the game programming industry and this will really help me starting from scratch and going from knowing basics to becoming more fluent in the different languages needed to create a top high tech cutting edge game. also can i use c and c++ with unity then? i am looking to make the game like GTA IV. yes i know it sounds crazy but 3 years + i think i can do it and i am VERY dedicated to this kind of work. i know you cant just make it in a night or just drag models onto the game engine. i want to experience creating a game myself in hope of one day having a job in one of the best game programming companies there is. thanks for any help, please don't just think im a kid that thinks everything is easy and its simple to make it because i am really interested in this topic. i am basically changing my whole life from here on out to become something i love doing and something that i can see myself doing in 10 years time. thanks for your help guys.

Your first game, or anyones first game is not going to be a first person shooter. Start simple and work up. Just because you can write C++ (which I doubt) doesn't qualify you for game programming. And besides, this is not the place to go to unless your looking for clowns who think there god because they can write in VB.
