You can get a 650 Ti for 100 GBP. I suggest this model because it has a nice cooler and a long PCB, which allows for more efficient tracing and performance.

radeon 6670 is a little cheaper but performs well. i have had this card and i ran bf3 medium settings around 30fps and black ops 2 no problem at all. another card is radeon 7770. you can get that for 100 on newegg after a rebste

If you can stretch 20-30 more pounds you will be able to pick up a Radeon HD 7850, very good card.

Nvidia's price drops have made a lot of their cards better buys than their AMD competitors. The 650 Ti, 650 Ti Boost, and 660 are all now the best cards at their price points, so instead of a 7850, you could get a 650 Ti Boost for about the same price with a better cooler, more VRAM (which is becoming more important) and slightly better performance.

I would have to disagree with you the hd7850 is a fair bit better than the 650ti boost.

There is only a 3 difference between the two 2gig models so I guess it's down to preference in the end.

If you get a 7850 with a single-fan cooler, yes, but the second fan will go a long way with both of these cards because they overclock very well. The cheapest 7850 with 2GB of VRAM is 150 GBP, which is almost 20 GBP more than the cheapest 650 Ti Boost with 2GB VRAM. The 2GB 7850 has a much smaller fan as well.

The 7850 is just about impossible to recommend over the 650 Ti Boost right now. Having a preference between AMD and Nvidia is ridiculous and your money should go to the highest bidder in terms of performance.

At stock levels, the 650 Ti Boost edition is the better card.

However, when overclocked, you can really push the 7850. Running it at 1300mV isn't unreasonable - which gives you the option to overclock to stock speeds of a 7950.

This also, however, means it'll be drawing much more power.

The 650 Ti Boost would suit someone who is doing a lot of productivity and doesn't necessarily want all the hassle with overclocking.

The 7850 is a good compromise if you can't afford a higher end card and you aren't bothered about having to overclock .

In the OPs situation, the 650 Ti would be the best option, and if he can pay out a little extra, the 650 Ti boost. It means he wont have to (possibly) spend extra on a quality PSU as well.
