Inside the console there is an eye made to read disc's overtime the xbox collects dust and various particles the eye could be dirty or could of been knocked out of it's rightful place or the disc tray could be off/ out of place.

would i be able to fix that or would i have to send it away or take it to a shop?

you would have to take your xbox apart so i wouldn't recommend you could try using a can of air

I agree with what poor is saying but I wouldn't reccomend taking apart your xbox if you don't know what you are doing.

I sometimes have this issue. My main problem is my disk tray..i need to bash it for it to open.

If you have any air compresser you can use it t and blow inside the disk try when its open and see if it works or you can just blow in it yourself, that might work or go to the store and find something like this, its compressed air in a can you just have to shake it up really good and then you can blow it into the disk tray when its open and get the dust out or off of the eye, Hope I helped!

try using compressed air to clean the inside of your xbox, if that doesn't work it might be your laser.
