PC Build:
AMD Athlon II x2 270
AMD Radeon HD 6670
4gb RAM
Asus M5A 78L-M LX3
500w power supply.

I need to do a safe OC, I think I could do it through BIOS with guidance but a programme/software would be great?
Help would be appreciated.

I really wouldn't even consider overclocking at all on a motherboard like that, unless you only really want to push it up a few hundred Mhz. I'd suggest always overclocking through the BIOS as programs that do it for you either tend to be wrong or glitchy. Also what CPU cooling do you have?

Is a few hundred Mhz going to make a difference? I just have a standard cpu cooler which came with the cpu so nothing special.

Probably not in all honesty, but as that motherboard isn't made for overclocking and doesn't have VRM cooling you could end up blowing the board if you push it too hard. Also the stock coolers are okay at cooling under stock clocks, but they struggle and get noisy when overclocking.

So it would struggle to cool the cpu if I did OC?

They usually do, but you can use a program called HwMonitor to monitor the temps if you like. But as i said earlier, i wouldnt overclock on that motherboard.
