~FAST/EASY 12v Fan Guide-Solder/No Solder Methods!~

Please Let Me Know If This TUT Helped Or If its A good TUT, Thanks

So most of you already know what the 12v mod is. If you don't know what it is, basically the fans run normally at 5v. When it starts to get hot/overheat the fans kick up speed(5v-12v range) to cool the console down. What is a good way to keep the console running cool after hours of playtime is modding the stock fans or after market fans to run at a constant 12v speed(fast).

Okay so now we have that out of the way and you want to go ahead with the mod there are a few ways of doing this. You can wire the fans to the DVD Power Cable(cable has 12v line) or if you know how to solder you can solder 2 wires to the underside of the motherboard by the PSU.

Wiring Fans to 12v using DVD Power Cable(No Soldering/2 min mod)

First let's locate the 12v spot on the cable. Looking at the cable plugged into the motherboard the 12v spot is on the top right of the plug. Always remember when you plug the cable back into the board, the 2 empty spots on the cable will face you and the top right is the 12v.

Now what you want to do is take wire cutters and strip some of the wire where my thumb is located to expose the 12v line. Try not to break the line and just strip the wire a touch and spread the wires apart with your fingers to expose the wire like in the second picture.

Now onto the stock fans. No matter what fan you have in the back(stock or whisper fan) the left side of the fan(wires on left/right side of fans) will be the positive. The wires on the right will always be the ground. Try not to go by the colors on the fans as there are a few different brands that use different colored wires.

Now just take the wire cutters and clip the 2 left wires by the fans plug and twist together. Leave the ground wires alone as you will plug the plug back in and use the fan plug as your ground.

Now take the fan and wrap it around the exposed wire and then tape it off with some electrical tape to cover any exposed wire.

Now plug in the DVD Power Cable back into the motherboard with the longest side of the wire and leaving the strip/tape part up toward the DVD Drive. This will help plugging in the DVD Drive easier. Now just plug in the DVD Drive sideways like pictured below.

Wiring fans to underside of Motherboard to 12v spot(Soldering 5 mins)

If you wish to solder the fan to the 12v source under the mobo just follow steps 4 and 5 and cut both the positive and ground wires on the fan. Strip the 4 wires and twist the positives together and the negatives together. You will need to strip 2 seperate wires to tie to the exposed fans wires and then use the 2 wires you stripped to solder to the board. If you try to use the fans wiring, it will not reach so you will need to find some wiring to use. Tie everything together tightly and use electrical tape to cover any exposed wiring.

Will this wear your fans out faster though? The motors arent meant to run that fast for that long..
