Agreed,
Industry supporters of DRM refer to it as "digital rights management" as if they are the ultimate authority to grant us our rights, as if they are the ones who should have complete and total control over how we use and interact with our media. What they are really doing is managing the restrictions they impose on our media and devices that we would normally have control over in the absence of DRM. We should own our media, not be at the mercy of media companies. For that reason, we refer to it as "Digital Restrictions Management".

inuyasha555 wrotecwc123 wroteBoar wrote People are voting for DRM because it opens up a new era for online gaming.
With the help of cloud you can have what ever game you want in seconds.
Imagine sitting down, turning on your console and going to the marketplace, buying COD 4 and having to wait about 1 minute before you can play the game. Then, you have the game for life, no scratches and can never be broken.
This is why we should have DRM.
Imagine sitting down, and finding out that Microsoft's terms of service do not guarantee you lifetime ownership of any game. When the next console comes around after Xbox One, you might have to say goodbye to all the games you previously owned if Microsoft doesn't include backwards compatibility. This is the current case for people that have bought 360 games on the market place. Will they get to keep their downloaded 360 games on Xbox One? Nope. What a bummer, especially since you payed more than the PC equivalent since Microsoft overprices all its content.
DRM is evil. It takes power away from the consumer. The majority have to suffer high prices because a minority of gamers pirate games...
Terrible argument as you can just READ the terms of service, you know?
You'll know exactly what you're paying for.
Oh and a MINORITY of gamers pirate? Ever heard of Game Dev Tycoon?

I think you mean MAJORITY.
The link you provided is irrelevant to console gaming.
Stop trying to defend DRM. Do you truly believe DRM helps boost game sales? Some guy at Microsoft is laughing behind his desk at the fact that people like you are attempting to defend their desire to control consumers.

So everything i find on Google will be 100% true no rumours nothing everything is the truth and nothing but the truth?
This thread isn't about bashing the Xbox. It's about raising awareness for the dangers of DRM, and the suspicious circumstances behind this petition that feels like it just appeared out of thin air. We can go through hours of fact checking, etc. but there is no reason to. Historically speaking, companies that use strict DRM policies try to milk as much money out of their consumers as possible. Just look at EA games. Look at their DRM failures, including the new Sim City - total disaster.
Alot of people want DRM because the restrictions really are not that bad, you can still trade your games in (at selected stores) you can share your games with friends without needing to give them the disc. You can play your games once you have installed them to your Xbox without the disc. Also developers get more money meaning that they will be able to lower there prices and have better sales if they choose so. Microsoft don't choose the prices for the Arcade games the developers do and they can only select that in Microsoft points now since Microsoft will be changing it to cash they will be able to have lower prices.
Just because it doesn't say you have lifetime guarantee of keeping your games doesn't mean they are just going to take them away from you either.
The majority of what you wrote is incorrect. DRM doesn't lower prices, competition does - which is nonexistent in a single unified market place where you cannot switch to a different service other than Xbox Live. Microsoft does choose prices - maps for L4D2 on Steam are free, yet on console they are forced to set a price. In addition, once Xbox Live support for the Xbox One ends, there are no means to conduct random DRM checks, thus rendering every game you own unplayable.
DRM is just a method to trap you, the gamer. They want you to buy as much content as possible on the market place, run constant checks to make sure you own it, and effectively prevent you from reselling the game while charging you full price for everything.

xOblivionnnnx wrote I think that microsoft put the petition out there. Don Mattrick left the company. PLUS just the way they responded to the petition made me suspicious. They said that the DRM wasn't gone in the first place after announcing that it was removed?
That is what the day one update is! They aren't gonna change the entire OS just because of some whiny uneducated fools complaining about change!

You will still be able to trade in games! Just as we do now! But the person buying the game would get a small fee for the license! It works on Steam and PC, it can sure as hell work with Xbox!

Small fee? You mean like 49.99? Do you really believe you're gonna get some great discount? When stores can't set prices for used games and the Xbox market has full control, don't expect much.

Hey buddy sim city works fine now ofc there will be issues on launch every bloody game has issues i'm pretty sure if Microsoft had DRM they would know about all the issues surrounding the always online thing and would have plans to prevent such things as the launch of sim city. Microsoft would be very prepared for all the demand to be honest they would have so much computing power way more than sim city.

Where did you get that amount from? Nowhere, if the fee is huge then people would go to the PS4! A 5 pound/dollar fee will give developers a huge amount of money! And the shops will still be pricing the 2nd hand games! Not Microsoft! Where are you getting all this false information from?

I made a number up for that as an exaggerated example. Shops have no control over the Xbox One marketplace - you're talking about physical copies. But in reality anybody who believes that this system will match the current pricing of used games in stores is fooling themselves.
