ok well i am getting an Hd Pvr for my birthday this weekend and i want to be ready to set up some recordings and stuff. i know that u can use EyeTv to record and stuff but its $80. if anyone knows were to get that for free that would be great or another suggestion on other software. also, on eiditing i know u can use imovie but that really does not have many effects u can use. any suggestions on that?

For editing you could try searching for Sony Vegas, but it costs a lot of money. :p
So go onto Youtube and type in something like: "How to get Sony Vegas for free"
And just follow the Video instructions, if your having problems with it, feel free to Pm me.

Did they release Sony Vegas for OS X?
iMovie is pretty weak, if its all you've got though shine it.
Also I'm sure you can get a Final Cut trial or something.
( I own Final Cut Pro..)

Imovie is not that weak of a editing software, you can do a lot with it, you just need to learn it completely.
now final cut is a huge awesomeness editing software.
you might want to go with final cut express, but you might want to take tutorials on how to use, bcuz its pretty advance.
final cut has been used by pro's a lot.
the tv series leverage is all done by final cut pro, and the movie jarhead is also done by final cut pro, real great editing software.

Well given everything you just stated and how I said I own Final Cut Pro, can you see why I'd say iMovie is weak in comparison?
