How to use your original Xbox HDD on new slim.
Well , I know this is old , but this is for the people who don't know about it or are scared to break the HDD.For this you will have to open your old HDD and take out the HDD , if you didn't already know... The first time I tried this i did it with no tools...I broke a 120 GB HDD. So if you want everything to go smoothly PLEASE BUY THE TOOLS, they cost like $8 for a box full of different screwdriver bits! The second time I tried it with a 60GB that I found , I used the tools I bought and everything went fine , I opened it and put it on my slim within 5minutes...literally. Also: you will want to buy a case for the HDD because if you put it in without one , its kinda wobbly and could possible damage it it. The cases cost like $3-4 on eBay and they fit perfect!
STEPS
1.Get the star screwdriver that fits the first set of bolts , and unscrew them all
2. Switch to a bigger star screwdriver and remove the second set of bolts.
3.Pull of the top plastic/metal piece
4. Unhook the connecter from the HDD
5. Slide the HDD out from the casing
6.Drop the HDD into the hardrive slot so that it lands on the Xbox HDD connector.

To be honest , this is VERY EASY to do, I really needed to get a HDD because I have the 4GB slim and I was running out of space to save stuff. Now I have 40GB clear , and I also really needed it since the new GTA is require quiet a bit of space. Now I don't have to spend money on a USB!I did this about 2-3 weeks ago , and its been working fine with no problems! And just to show you how easy it is , here is a speeded up video of me opening it , the original video was about 3 minutes long , but my upload speed is really bad , so I just sped it up , here's the video
*if you do this , I'm not responsible if you break anything , please do this at your own risk.
