You will need to install an operating system first, I think :S

I am pretty sure you need to install an OS (windows, linux etc.) In order to do anything on your computer...

The disc that comes with your motherboard will have utilities if applicable, and won't actually affect the booting of your motherboard. So yes you'll need to install windows for the stuff on the disc to work but they arent necessary. You should download the up to date versions from the vendors site.

When you get motherboards/graphics cards or some other hardware they give you a disc with drivers on it to install. But as the item may have came out the factory a while ago then there may have been a new updated driver which can have performance advantages.

You won't be able to update without an operating system, so don't bother with the disc.
