No, it wasn't. Atleast I don't think so, It should overheat in less than 10 seconds. It has never overheated before and I hadn't played it all day.

Well seeing as it's dead, what exactly was sticky? Are you talking about under the heatsinks on the chips?
If so, that was thermal paste and is supposed to be there. It helps dissipate heat.

No it was genuinely sticky the metal case. It was everywhere. It wasn't thermal paste.
Anyways, I didn't have a good look at it. I took it all off but I'll have another crack at fixing it tomorrow.
