So I recently built my first custom PC, everything works great!

However (yes there is always a however) I am having connection problems with my wifi card, and I have tested my brothers wifi card (the same as mine) in my computer in the same place.

I can connect but speedtests and connection speeds are virtually rock bottom.. and I'm not joking.

The thing is as soon as I move my PC about 1 foot out from under my desk it works like a dream! I have also currently set it on top of my desk and its also working like a treat!

This thing I am wondering is, firstly I have 2 concrete walls to go through and also my computer has the back facing an exterior wall. I have read that exterior walls will slow internet speeds down a lot.

So basically I have decided to ask you lot what do you think would be the most suitable option, and no I don't want it on my desk as this is temporary and I also don't want to have it sticking out from under it about 1 foot.

I also saw that you can buy upgrades for you antenna? Would that work? I mean I have a dual network antenna adapter, so if I bought (item below) and took out one of my antennas and then set it on my desk would this fix my problem?

Also would 5dbi be enough for it to go through 2/3 concrete walls?

I would make not much difference at all.

If that card cannot pick up a decent signal, time for a ISP upgrade.

See I don't think my ISP is the problem, my brothers computer in the next room works fine, even with everyone connected I still get decent speeds (before this problem).

Everyone else in the house can connect perfectly no problems at all.

Edit: I just thought it was because I had 2/3 concrete walls to pass through

The metal in the walls and/or door frames drain some of the signal. I have that same problem.

But convinced my parents to have the router in my bedroom aha.

It's not the ISP, you'll want a dual band router and a dual band compatible WiFi card.

Better signal strength.
