That $3000 build you originally linked is a total waste of money. You do not need a ASUS CFV to overclock heavily, a lot of the ASUS boards use the same components. The Sabertooth uses all the same components, has a longer warranty and only lacks the ROG features which are useless to most.

The Titan is pretty pointless unless you're buying multiple ones, and if you are planning to drop heavy dollar on a GPU now, wait for the AMD 8000 series cards. OTT power supply, wrong coloured RAM, too small SSD (bear in mind you're spending 3000, its still small) and a 10k HDD is not worth it you will not gain much performance.

As someone else said, you're planning to buy a CFV board which is nice, I'm an AMD man and I want one...but it has a great sound solution built in. Its useless buying a sound card as the board has onboard 7.1.

If i was going to buy a $3k build right now i would get this: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Well i'm a strong believer in getting the board you want then finding out if the quality is good...why? Well because you're already prepared to buy a soundcard, but if you find the onboard audio is decent then you've saved money rather than jumping the gun.

But yes the CFV sound is said to be nice, better than a sound card? I couldn't say.

I still don't know why you need a system so expensive...what are you going to be using it for?

Well it depends what games you play really. I run a 7870XT and max lots of games, but there are some i can't but thats with a 150GBP GPU so you don't always need to drop hella dollar for parts. It really depends on YOUR usage.

Future proofing doesn't work, im sorry but it doesn't. People have different opinions, but mine is to buy what you need now, and then upgrade when you either bottleneck something or wear something out. It saves you money in some cases and you end up not going crazy because it is easy to spend a lot of money when you could get away with spending less and getting similar results.

Something i'd recommend? Well based on previous Intel platform releases (Sandybridge & Ivy) they both still trade blows with newer gear these days, so you could buy Haswell and be comfortable knowing it'll last a few years and because a lot of enthusiasts are buying it, they'll always be used hardware in the future if you need it.

AM3+ as a platform needs updating and I wouldn't be expecting AMD to keep it past Steamroller.

not really into intel. I also planned on upgrading to 9370 in the future. Also, with the titans. Its inevitable ill be buying another card, whether i go amd or nvidia, i will eventually go crossfire/sli. I really like the titan for its single gpu performance though. I plan on running that asus 1080p and another monitor 1600x900

Don't bother getting a FX9370. Its exactly the same processor as the FX8350 just with a higher clock speed.

Well its up to you what you want to buy but some sources online say Nvidia may release a GTX790 which might trump the Titan and AMD are releasing their new cards so i would not spend a thousand on a card right now. A lot of cards perform well on their own and the Titans are only really worth it if you use multiple ones. You should look into a single GTX780 it will handle pretty much anything right now.

Why not get monitors with the same resolution? Its not like 1080p is expensive.

wellif i follow your advice and drop the titan and soundcard, i can buy 3 monitors and a gtx 780 evga classified as well :p for roughly the same price. Do you have skype? I remember running into on this forum before, you know what you're talking about
Edit: 1600x900 is my current monitor

780 - gaming.
Titan - using apps to take advantage of the higher floating point. Other than that, it's pretty much the same performance wise.

It's better to take a few peoples ideas and form your own choice of what to buy. I could tell you to get a piece of junk and you might not realise until its too late.

If you keep to one topic (this one) with ideas or questions for this build then myself, and other can chime in when they pass through.
