Well form personal experience, i had the same problem hitting the console over top of the disktray a few times not to hard but enough while the disk is in can be a temp fix. You can put the phat disk tray in there i have done that too. But either way you need a new one whether its a transfer or you buy one.

You cannot swap the Slim and Phat xbox drives. But, you can buy a new drive of the same brand and replace it.

To find what you have. This might help:

1) Buy new drive matching the one you have.

2) Then you need to extract the dvd key and Firmare from the broken drive using JungleFlasher.

3) Get the stock Firmware from JungleFlasher

4) Flash your old DVD key and firmware to your new drive.

Yeah lol I had this same problem and I was trying for like 4 hours to fix it but yeah. .. you cant just swap xbox 360 disc drives

google open tray error fix, look for the one where you change the screws on the lazer. worked for perfectly for me

When the xbox stops reading games it means that you're disc drive is going bad and needs replacing
