Hopefully some kind of flu virus comes and wipes out half the population.

Yes, us as humans and our natural desires will kill us off before the sun has a chance to die out. For one, the oxygen levels are decreasing, and will only continue to do so with our thirst for land and continuing our daily lives. We may probably warm up the Earth to such a degree where the Polar ice caps melt causing the Earth to flood (it's still possible to live from that). Maybe a hostile alien life force (The universe being as big as it is, it would eventually have to come about) will come and wipe us from the planet and possibly take all of the resources. A repeat of the end of the dinosaur age can happen to us. There can possible be another World War involving nuclear warheads that will inevitably obliterate our lands.

The sun, a type G star, will die in about five billion years. The sun will have used up most of its hydrogen, and its core will have become denser than it now is. Because of this pressure, the sun's core will heat up to 100,000,000 K (180,000,000 F), instead of its normal 10,000,000 K (18,000,000 F). This will cause the sun to expand so much that it will envelop Mercury and Venus, and also vaporize Earth. The sun will be known as a red giant. Its color will have changed from yellow to orange-red.
The swelling is due to the heat: When any matter gets heated, it expands. The sun's intense heat will be enough to fuse the helium into larger atoms, and as long as its helium supply lasts, it will continue to shine - about 100,000,000 years.
During this time, however, the sun will begin to shrink, due to its lessening mass. When its fuel runs out, it will become a white dwarf - a star that shines because it is hot, not because it is producing energy through fusion.
When the sun runs out of heat, it will be a huge, black, chunk of carbon, floating in space. It will be called a black dwarf - a dead star.

Asteroid is more than likely going to cause the end of the world (for us humans at least) But for Earth to be totally "wiped out" it would take another Planet being knocked off orbit and hitting us, but that is unlikely. So for total wipe out of Earth it will be about 4 billion years when the Sun dies and turns into a red giant.

It depends what you mean. I can imagine there will be humans on this planet for at least a few more thousand years. But society will change so much to the point where it won't be the same as it is now. I think when it ends it will be because of either a meteor (or asteroid, I'm not quite sure of the difference), or from a nuclear or biological warfare.
On a side note I was expecting the world to end on December 21st, 2012. You could catch me on this forum page every single day reading and posting about it lol. I didn't know how it would end but I was almost positive that it was all gonna end. So after that I won't EVER believe anything about the end of days until I'm watching it happen with my own eyes.
