This worked for me and my friend, when you're looking for players join someone's session or have them invite you. It will say you need to finish the tutorial and throw you back into it and everyone he has told has had success in getting to the race and finishing the tutorial

Just tried it, didn't work. Just brings up an alert which says you need to finish the tutorial first. After you hit A or X, the screen just goes away and you're still in the same lobby.
