What would I need to buy in order for me to have two connections going into my one DVI-D port on my monitor? For example, my computer would be on one of the connections going in and my laptop or some other device would be on the other connection and I would be able to switch from either one from being on the output. Sounds a little confusing, but that's the best that I could put it.

Right, so you want to use 2 devices using one connection. The only way i know of how to do that is using DisplayPort, not DVI-D. So you would have to use 2 different cables and switch them out every time you want to use each of them.
If i got the wrong end of the stick, sorry lol.

That's what I was getting at. I was hoping I wouldn't have to switch them out every time but it's not too much of a pain to do.

I can't see any reason why not, but Google it before you buy as there might be hidden secrets.
