Why is the "Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition" such garbage, I recently got one because I am going to start playing on a monitor and needed the HDMI support because my previous Hauppauge HD PVR Gaming Edition (The first edition of hauppauge) didn't support it.
I have had zero problems with the first edition Hauppauge HD PVR Gaming Edition and now when I record with the Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition it skips/freezes every few seconds after when I look back at the footage after I stopped recording. Let alone all the drivers I had to install when I first got it because it wasn't working properly then. I use Arcsoft ShowBiz to record. I also tried lowering my recording rate "mbps" down and it stills freezes several times through out the video.
Is there any solution to this? or should I just buy a component to HDMI adapter and continue using my old Hauppauge HD PVR Gaming Edition (First Edition) Is there any one else that had problems? Please help if you can, Thanks.

I forgot the software, I think it's called "Hauppauge Record" or something similar . I remember the logo was a red button, look on the website for it.

I use the Elgato HD because I heard stupid things about the PVRs and their recording software. I couldn't be happier with the Elgato.

When I had mine it worked great. If I knew the problem I would help.

I would rather go with an El Gato, but try to use Hauppauge Capture more than ArcSoft.
I will tell you my honest review on the HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition...
IT SUCKS.
How can you tell me that 2 HDMI wires that come with the device output 2 different video formats? I've never heard of one side of an HDMI cable outputting HDMI and the other side outputting DVR. I can't even play on 1080i/p quality anymore because I'm forced to play on 720p or 480p, and the choice there is obvious. If you turn your console on before you open the software, it will freeze, lag and pixelate a lot. They rushed this product out and have failed to deliver.
There are many bad reviews and I personally regret getting mine. I hate having to spend 6 hours every week to fix my PVR because I unplugged my Xbox. Every time I turn my PC off, my PVR goes haywire. For F*** sakes, StreamEez doesn't even work on the damn thing and they implemented it in the main capturing software.
I will tell you one good thing about it though.
You don't need a million dollar computer to record in high quality.

Yeah, I see your point. I love that I don't need a really good PC to record in the amazing quality it records but I must say I have not one problem with the original Hauppauge HD PVR Gaming Edition.
I realised that it's best if I use the "Hauppauge Capture" to record because when I use ArcSoft the video after I finised recording constantly freezes.

False, I am using the HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition Plus and it still has these problems.
The only difference between plus and non plus is the fact that plus is compatible with MAC now.
