They actually don't, Cause the one I want has been inactive for a while!
Recently (I'd say like 2 or 3 years ago) they released all of the original Xbox gamertags that were inactive for over 8 years. The people on Xbox 360 were able to snag those names. We're going to have to wait that same time frame for another gamertag release. A friend of mine back in the beginning of MW2 when this happened, got the gamertag Tupac. I don't think I have ever been so jealous in my life.

You could keep turboing a gt up until the person changes it. The turboing program will notify you that you have claimed the gamertag. So you wouldn't really need to check.

Using a turbo program is your best bet. I am turboing "Ste" and soon as that comes available I SHOULD have it.
