A single card is what I'd recommend in every circumstance. Xfire has some really bad optimizations in games.

Get the 280X or 770 over the 7970 though.

I second Craig. Always go with the better single card than the two worse cards. With crossfire all you'll have is problems with drivers and microstuttering ect.
